MBIE Guidance on Remote Inspections using Artisan
MBIE has published its guidance to BCAs on using technologies for virtual inspections. Most importantly for Artisan is that MBIE has placed Artisan in a remote inspection class of its own as the exemplar of "evidence -based inspections."
"This approach involves capturing digital information on-site, which is assessed for compliance at a later stage. The inspector sets clear expectations (photo lists) in advance."
When all photos are taken, pushing the Submit button on a mobile device signals to the BCA that a shotlist has been completed and is ready for review. Non-compliant work is identified and the builder is notified through the App. Work is remediated and the photo is retaken and resubmitted for a re-inspection of just the failed elements. Currently, BCAs are performing these reviews in less than 60 minutes and reinspections can take minutes to be approved.
So not only are these inspections quicker to do they form part of the QA of the build during the building process without interrupting the building to wait for the arrival of onsite inspectors. That wait, which can be days in peak seasons, is avoided with Artisan and an enduring digital record of the build is preserved for all present building participants and present and future owners of the home.
